Location: Siem Reap, Angkor Wat, Phnom Penh
3 DAY/2 NIGHT CAMBODIA TOUR
Route: SIEM REAP-PHNOM PENH-DEPARTURE
Detailed Itinerary
Day One
ARRIVAL SIEM REAP ANGKOR
Arrival in Siem Reap where in an area of 200 square kilometres surrounded by forest, Angkor springs up, the ancient capital of the Khmer empire. First you settle into the hotel.
In the afternoon you will visit the impressive architectural complex of Angkor Wat, considered the most beautiful in Angkor due to its style, size and conception, and has become a national symbol representing the unity of the Cambodian people. The same complex is depicted on the flag of the country. The temple was built by King Suryavarman II (1113-1150), the “King protected by the sun” who wanted it to be his mausoleum. Its construction began in 1122 and ended in 1150, the year of his death. Angkor Wat covers an area of 2 million square metres, surrounded by a 200 metre wide moat, whose banks were covered by terraces.
It is the only temple pointing to the west, the direction of the sunset, and the path of the dead. The decorations that go on for miles as bass carvings in the walls, in the arcades and corridors are impressive, and they illustrate with incredible wealth and vibrancy the main scenes of the Indian epics. Finally returning to the hotel to stay overnight.
Day Two
SIEM REAP ANGKOR-PHNOM PENH
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning you will visit Angkor Thom, the capital of Angkor from 10th to 15th century. If Angkor Wat is the classic masterpiece of Hinduism, Angkor Thom testifies switching to a different inspirational symbol, that of Mahayana Buddhism, an event that took place after the catastrophe of 1177, when Angkor was invaded by Cham, today’s Vietnam. The leader of that change was King Jayavarman VII that completely reorganised Angkor and, with a feverish construction campaign from 1181 to 1220, built the fortified Citadel of Angkor Thom, which means “the city that maintains the world by making its own law”. You will visit the sites made by Jayavarman VII (1181-1220): the South Gate, Bayon, the Terrace of Elephants, the Terrace of the Leper King; and the eleventh century sites: Baphuon, Phimeanakas, North and South Khleang, and the 12 Prasat Suor Prat. Check out of the hotel. Travel to the airport where a flight departs in the afternoon to Phnom Penh. Upon arrival, we will go to the pre-chosen hotel. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day Three
PHNOM PENH-DEPARTURE
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning you will visit the small and charming city of Phnom Penh, the place where Asia’s past and present meet. The city lies at the point where the Mekong, Tonle Bassac and Tonle Sap meet. For a long time considered the most beautiful city among those built by the French in Indonesia, it has managed to retain much of its charm in spite of the events of its history. Visit the National Museum, a treasure chest containing the masterpieces of Khmer sculptures from the fifth to the thirteenth century and the area of the Royal Palace with the Throne Room, where even today the Sovereign gives his audiences in the adjacent Silver Pagoda. At midday, check out in time to transfer to the airport.
