ITINERARY
Day One
PHNOM PENH – SIEM REAP ANGKOR

Day Two
PHNOM PENH – SIEM REAP ANGKOR
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for Sambor Prei Kuk, an important archaeological site containing numerous monuments. The visit begins in the complex of Sambor Prei Kuk: the North Group, the capital of the Baladitya kingdom under the rule of King Aninditapura (6th Century A.D.), the South Group capital of Isanapura under the reign of King Isanavarman (611-635 AD) and group C under the reign of Jayavarman II (790-850). Following on to Siem Reap. Arriving in Siem Reap, you can settle into the hotel. Overnight stay.
Day Three
SIEM REAP ANGKOR
Breakfast at the hotel and then we begin the visit of Angkor Thom, the capital of Angkor from the 10th to the 15th century. If Angkor Wat is the classic masterpiece of Hinduism, Angkor Thom testifies switching to an different inspirational symbol, that of Mahayana Buddhism, an event that took place after the catastrophe of 1177, when Angkor was invaded by Cham which is today’s Vietnam. The leader of that change was King Jayavarman VII that completely reorganised Angkor and, with a feverish construction campaign from 1181 to 1220, built the fortified Citadel of Angkor Thom, which means “the city that maintains the world by making its own law”. You will visit the sites made by Jayavarman VII (1181-1220): the South Gate, Bayon, the Terrace of Elephants, the Terrace of the Leper King; and the eleventh century sites: Baphuon, Phimeanakas, North and South Khleang, and the 12 Prasat Suor Prat. In the afternoon the visit finishes with the archaeological sites of Preah Khan, Neak Pean, Ta Prohm (Jayavarman VII). Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day Four
SIEM REAP ANGKOR
Breakfast in the hotel and departure to the temple of Banteay Srei, about 28 kilometres from the city, considered a real jewel of Khmer art, and nicknamed The Temple of women. The strange things about this temple are the pink sandstone bass cravings, and that it’s the only temple to have been built by a dignitary of the court and not by a king. On the way back we will stop at the temple of Banteay Samre (Suryavarman II, 1113-1150), the Eastern Mebon, the Pre Rup temple and the Prasat Kravan (10th century temples), dedicated to Shiva. In the afternoon you will visit the impressive architectural complex of Angkor Wat, considered the most harmonious of Angkor for its style, proportion and conception, and has become a national symbol representing the unity of the Cambodian people. The same complex is depicted on the flag of the country. The temple was built by King Suryavarman II (1113-1150), the “King protected by the sun” who wanted to make his mausoleum. Its construction began in 1122 and ended in 1150, the year of his death. Angkor Wat covers an area of 2 million square metres, surrounded by a 200 metre wide moat, whose banks were covered by terraces. It is the only temple pointing to the west, the direction of the sunset, and the path of the dead. The decorations that go on for kilometers as bass carvings in the walls, in the arcades and corridors are impressive, and they illustrate with incredible wealth and vibrancy the main scenes of the Indian epics. Climbing up to the temple on the hill of Phnom Bakhaeng you will see a brilliant sunset. Return to the hotel. Overnight stay.
Day Five
SIEM REAP ANGKOR
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning you will depart for Lake Tonle Sap, the largest in Southeast Asia, it is a natural phenomenon that provides fishing resources and irrigation to nearly half of the Cambodian population. In the rainy season (mid-May to early October) the shoreline passes from 2500 square km to 13,000 square km while the depth increases from 2.2 meters to about 10 meters. This extraordinary process makes Tonle Sap one of the richest reserves of freshwater fish in the world, creating the ideal conditions for breeding many different species. By virtue of this extraordinary ecosystem, the lake has been declared a protected biosphere. Visit the floating village of the Chong Kneas fishermen, with traditional wooden buildings. Return for lunch and an afternoon break with a visit to the local market and in the artisans village there is a shop inside the Les Chantiers Écoles, which is a school specialized in teaching sculpture techniques in wood and stone to disadvantaged young people. The profits are used to fund the school and to subscribe other young people in education courses. A free afternoon and transfer in time to get to the airport.
